Paper Making Polyacrylamide
Polyacrylamide (PAM) is used as paper-making additive with different molecular weights and functional groups. PAM has many functions, such as increasing filler retention, enhancing wet-dry strength of paper fibers, improving surface properties, ink adsorption, and so on.
The use of Polyacrylamide in papermaking began 30 years ago when anionic polyacrylamide was used. Various modified polyacrylamides developed rapidly, especially the copolymerization of AM with other monomers and the grafting copolymerization of AM with starch.
